Transitioning to FIRST Tech Challenge
After an incredible run in FIRST LEGO League and an unforgettable trip to the World Championship, The Probots are officially leveling up. For the upcoming season, we are trading in our plastic bricks for metal channels and taking on the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC)!
FTC brings a massive upgrade in engineering. We are moving from snap‑together LEGO pieces to cutting, drilling, and assembling custom metal chassis. We will be learning how to use 3D CAD software to design custom attachments and utilizing actual hardware tools to build an 18‑inch robot.
While our pivot to Pybricks in FLL taught us the fundamentals of text‑based coding, FTC will push our programming skills even further. We will be transitioning into Java and Android Studio, writing complex algorithms for advanced sensors, and programming gamepads for the intense driver‑controlled portions of the matches.
With bigger robots come bigger responsibilities. FTC requires dedicated drive teams, extensive engineering portfolios, and deeper community outreach. We are restructuring our team workflow to ensure everyone has a specialized role while maintaining the collaborative environment that got us this far.
